Child Welfare Officer

Main purpose of a Child Welfare Officer (CWO)

The main purpose of a Child Welfare Officer is to act as the main point of contact in the Club for all issues relating to the welfare of children and young people within the Club. The CWO also needs to ensure that all appropriate documentation, policies and procedures are completed and maintained in accordance with BSUK policy and current legislation.

Duties

• To ensure that the Club has a Child Protection Policy in place and an implementation plan for the policy.
• Ensure that Codes of Conduct are in place and are well publicised and adhered to.
• In consultation with the BSUK Welfare Officer ensure all reported incidents are managed in accordance with the BSUK Welfare Policy.
• Ensure all Club members are aware of child protection training opportunities.
• Ensure all parents are aware of the Club child protection policy and the correct procedure for reporting their concerns.
• Be aware of the local Social Services, Police and Area Child Protection Committee contacts.
• Sit on relevant Club committees.
• Liaise with all relevant committee members.
• Be a point of contact for all coaches, umpires and volunteers taking responsibility of children and young people and liaise with their parents or carers.
• Implement all Criminal Records Bureau applications.
• Maintain records of Criminal Records Bureau Disclosures in accordance with Good Practice procedures.

The CWO will be responsible to the main Farnham Park Baseball and Softball Club committee.

It is envisaged that the CWO role will be an on-going post with reasonable continuity and will be reviewed on a regular basis.

The CWO will need to be discrete, approachable, have good listening and communications skills and have a good understanding of child protection issues, policies and procedures.

Training

The CWO will require the Sportscoach UK Safeguarding Children and Young People training as a minimum requirement and additionally NSPCC Time to Listen training, when available.
